Viewing Partial Schedules by Term

The SASIxp Scheduling atom allows you to view current schedules for individual students. This atom provides onscreen options and a printable report (Report ID SSS08 - Scheduling Reject Analysis) which both allow you to select students with conflicts.

The onscreen schedule display and the report provided by this atom sort student schedules by term within period. For schools where most courses meet for one term, including schools with block or "4 by 4" schedules, it is very useful to be able to view the schedule information for students in conflict sorted by term.

The printable report does not provide alternative sort options, but you can use SASIxp features to reorder the onscreen schedule display by period within term.

Procedure

Prepare for simulation analysis in SASIxp.

  • Use the Results Update atom to load student schedules from the latest Scheduling Optimizer simulation to the SASIxp database.
  • Open the Scheduling atom in SASIxp and select the Analysis tab.

Select students with conflicts.

  • To display the next student in conflict, select "Next rejected student" on the Scheduling menu. To display the previous student in conflict, select "Last rejected student".

  • A grid representing schedule information for the selected student displays. Course request entries are sorted by term within period.

Sort the current student's schedule by term, then period.

The schedule data initially displays sorted by term within period, with any unscheduled course requests at the bottom.

  • Click in the heading area of the Trm (term) column. The Trm column is now highlighted.
  • While holding down the Shift key, double click in the heading area of the "Beg Per" (beginning period) column. The "Beg Per" column is now additionally highlighted and the display is reordered by period within term.
  • Click in the heading area of the Ln (line) column in the upper left of the displayed grid. All column highlighting is removed.
The student's schedule information is now sorted by term, then period, with unscheduled course requests at the top.

Notes

  • You can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+R instead of the Scheduling atom's menu selection to navigate to the next conflict student. However, you do need to use the menu selection to go to the previous conflict student; the suggested Ctrl+L keyboard shortcut doesn't appear to work.
  • To quickly restore the default term within period sort order, use the navigation arrows to move forward to the next student, then back to the original current student.
